We left Naples and headed to the Miccosukee Resort and Gaming to wait for Rob and Kristin Joy to Uber over from the Miami airport.  It would be a little difficult maneuvering around an airport with the Busse Bus and Jeep in tow.  The Joy’s were joining us for a week to experience the “RV Life”.  Our plan was to stop in Key Largo for a  few days and then drive down to Key West.  One of Rob’s bucket list items was to drive the Keys – something that I always wanted to accomplish as well.  Once they were loaded up – off we went!

We drove down to the Keys Palms RV Resort in Key Largo.  Had a beautiful spot right on the Gulf of Mexico.

Note the sign and the huggie!

We asked the RV Resort hosts where we should go for dinner to get great seafood.  They told us to head to “The Fish House” just down the street and gave us a 10% off coupon (which I promptly forgot to bring).  We went and we were not disappointed!

Excellent seafood!  I had the yellowfin Matecumbe and it was wonderful.  Everyone enjoyed their meals.

The Joy’s rented bikes and we rode down the keys to have breakfast at Harriette’s, famous for their muffins.

Outstanding key lime muffin!  You can tell that I loved it because I have a heart over my head.

On the ride back we stopped at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park to visit a beach (we would later learn that the beaches in the keys are not very good).  Instead of hitting the beach, Rob and I decided to rent a two-person kayak and check out the mangroves.

Great exercise and it was very nice to share this experience with Rob.  It did get a bit hairy when we decided to kayak up Jellyfish Creek.  That’s right, Jellies everywhere in the water.  Good thing we didn’t tip over.

Those round sandy colored things are the Jellies either sleeping, eating, of mating in the water.  It was thick with them!

After Rob and I returned to the park, we decided to grill out.  Chicken and bleu cheese, bacon wrapped dates.

Rob couldn’t stop raving about the dates.  I think it was the first date Rob has had in over 20 years!

The next day we hung by the pool and relaxed anticipating Key West would be busy.  Found a place for dinner called “The Lazy Lobster” that looked a little sketchy from the outside but we went ahead in and we were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful tiki bar in the back.

The food was excellent – I had the hogfish which I saw later and it is a pretty ugly fish, but tasted pretty good!

The next day we were back on the road heading to Key West.
