We stopped in Tallahassee to see our niece, Macy, who plays beach volleyball. She plays for the Florida State University (FSU) Seminoles. (I always need to “laugh” when other universities are able to use Native American names at their schools and not get sanctioned by the NCAA – probably just sour grapes! Long live Chief Illiniwek!!!). They were having their annual Alumni weekend where they played intramural-squad with past athletes. It was fun seeing the camaraderie between the players, both past and present.
We stayed at the Tallahassee RV Park on the west side of town and needed to drive about 25 minutes to get to the sand courts. It was a nice park after we got past the initial sites before seeing the office. The back sites were much better being tree-lined with enough space in between to actually feel like you where somewhat out in the woods.
Kat and I took a wonderful bike ride and ended up at the Lafayette Heritage Trail where we had to traverse off-road for a bit. Good thing that we have “hybrid” bikes! We ran into an offshoot called Bill’s Trail around Piney Z Lake which was created and maintained by his daughter. There was a small structure erected with all sorts of talismans hanging as a sort of “rite of passage”.
Found a great dog park to let Bear run wild and play with other doggies called Tom Brown. I’m not sure what ole Tom did, but he has a beautiful park named after him that includes baseball diamonds, frisbee golf course, picnic areas, soccer fields, etc. Thanks Tom, we really enjoyed watching Bear play!
Macy was able to make it out to the Busse Bus to check out our new digs!
That night we swung by Macy’s apartment – way too grown up for a college kid – and then took her and her roommate (and fellow teammate) Nikki out for dinner. Japanese hibachi, or as we called it with our kids – cut in front of you.
All good things come to and end and we were off again heading to see our nephew at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
