What a beautiful day for a hike! We decided to do the Mount Healy Overlook Trail which is rated as “strenuous” with a rise of 1,700 feet and it’s 2.7 miles one-way.
It got a little chilly and windy at the top of the overlook but it offered a great view of the entrance to Denali. We decided to continue to follow the path higher and reached the next peak which added another 600 foot rise. It became too chilly so we headed back down to the flat land and warmth.
Another hunt for the elusive moose. One thing that Ari wanted to see whilst in Alaska was a moose. So far (besides the one we saw in captivity) we haven’t had any luck in spotting a moose in the wild. The locals told us that they see them all the time and that a good place to check out would be the Horseshoe Lake Trail.
Very nice easy hike down to the lake which has been dammed up by beavers. We hiked around the entire lake and saw the beavers, but no moose. At this point we are getting convinced that moose aren’t real and definitely not in Alaska.
Still time in the day to take the dogs on their own hike across the bridge and down to the river:
Pretty river, flora, and man-made rock formations. I created the last rock formation near the river – six years of architecture school and I still have it! Best part was that the dogs got a good walk in to tucker them out.
