Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada starts the Alaskan Highway which was constructed in 1942 by the United States Military to create a passage into Alaska in case the Japanese invaded North America. The entire 2450 Kilometer road was completed in just eight months – an outstanding achievement! Dawson Creek itself grow from a town of 500 to over 10,000 at the outset of the highway construction.
We drove 350+ miles from Edmonton to Dawson Creek. I’m pretty sure that Canadian bugs must be very depressed because about 417,428 of them committed suicide on my windshield during the drive. Cleaning the windshield of the Busse Bus is not an easy task:
We thought it would be appropriate to stay at the Mile 0 RV Park where we accidentally camped with the caravan from Fantasy RV Tours starting their 48 Heart of Alaska tour that we had tried to get on but only made the first alternate position. Not wishing ill-will on any other travelers, but it sure would have made my life easier to have gotten on the tour. The RV Park was very nice and we had a primo site next to the Pioneer Park in town:
The tractor and other implements pictured were used during the construction of the Alaskan Highway.
I spent the entire day on Friday booking RV parks from Dawson Creek through Denali National Park in Alaska. That will take us through early August. I will need to spend another day booking the rest back down to the contiguous 48.
Note to self: Be careful when unhooking the jeep from the Busse Bus as thumb injury can occur.
I probably should of had my nails done in Edmonton with Katrina to make them stronger!
