At the rally we heard terrible stories about the crossing the border into Canada.  We were actually a little apprehensive about doing so.  For about 1 1/2 weeks prior we have been trying to drink the Busse Bus dry so we wouldn’t have to pay any taxes.  We looked up the requirements on the internet and made our list:

  • Alcohol:  (2) 12 oz. beers, (1) 3/4 full bottle of red wine, (3) bottles of champagne, (1) bottle rum, (1) bottle tequila, (3) partially drunk bottles of vodka, (1) 2/3 bottle of Makers.
  • Plants: (1) flowerless orchid, (1) basil, (1) Golden Pothos
  • Animals: (2) Australian Shepherds – Sydney and Canberra (Bear) with papers
  • Firearms: None
  • Tobacco: None
  • Fireworks: None
  • Bear Spray: (1) can
  • (2) vehicles: Insurance and registrations
  • (4) driver’s licenses: (2) each for Katrina and Ed.  Old ones and paper temporary ones for Class B Non-CDL.

We thought we were ready.  Got in line and it took about an hour to get up to the booth.  The nice Canadian border control lady started to fire questions at me….

  1. Passports:  Gave her both of ours.
  2. How many people in the RV?   Two.
  3. How long are you going to be in Canada?  Ah, 48 day round trip to Alaska.
  4. How many days before you get to Alaska?  Ah, ah, ah…..17?
  5. Any alcohol on board?  I was ready for this one…read my list.  Good job, me!
  6. Any tobacco on board?  No.  Again, I was prepared.
  7. Any bear spray?  Yes, one can.

I was waiting for her to say that I needed to go to secondary inspection.  All she said was:

Have a nice visit!

We were through in about one minute once we got up to the person.

Easy peasy.
