When this area was designated a National Park in 1910 there were 100 glaciers in the vicinity. Today, 108 years later, there are 26. If you are going to come and see them you better hurry before this National Park loses it’s namesake.
Based on the recommendation from the RV Owners, we first headed to Many Glaciers on the Northeast side of the park. Viewed the lodge and surrounding area:
I had a wonderful smoked salmon sandwich at Nell’s in the Swiftwater Inn a bit further into Glacier. What beautiful flowers and falls. In the gift-shop was the sign – had to get a photo of it as it’s one on my favorite lines from Lord of the Rings. The area reminded me of Lake Louise outside of Banff that we went to last fall with Peter and Maureen Acker. Unfortunately we were not able to hike like we did last fall because we had the dogs along. Next time we are here.
Next we headed to the “Going to the Sun” road which traverses across the park. What a beautiful drive. We stopped and got a lot of pictures:
My favorite was of Logan’s Pass where we walked down a path and ran into a mountain goat. Certainly one of Bear’s cousins.
Very frightening path across the cliff – good thing there is a rope to hang on to. At the beginning of the trail we ran into the mountain goat or as we have now learned, a sheep. Not sure what Katrina is cheering about more, the sheep or getting off the trail.
