1FAB07B8-68AA-44E6-9C95-80D47BF6CD26Colorado and mountains bound and hopefully cooler weather.  Been in the 90’s for weeks.  First stop: Colorado Springs – only 500 miles away (and you can’t hear the whistle blow that far); our longest drive yet.  I’m anticipating the drive in as I recall the beauty of going from wheat fields to seeing the mountains in the distance to actually arriving.

Just asked Katrina to look up in our big book of everything related to the Busse Bus about how we are notified when we need DEF.  Diesel Exhaust Fluid is needed in all diesel vehicles since the mid 90’s – it reduces that smell and look of diesel engines.  Well we pulled onto a state road off the expressway and just passed all the gas stations when the light came on.  Had to make a U-turn (not easy when you’re 44’ and dragging a jeep).  Pulled into the gas station at the truck area but could not find where the DEF pump was.  I made Katrina ask the trucker parked next to us.  It was a couple of lanes over so we had to circle the station and pull into the correct pump area.  Talk about newbies!

We pulled into the Fountain Creek RV Park about 5pm Mountain time.  It was a bit difficult as we had to traverse numerous homeless people hanging around the front gate.  This is another Good Sam approved park – it was probable a great spot in its heyday a half century ago.  Very sketchy.  I really have to rethink these Good Sam parks.

Good news is that we are in Colorado Springs with a plethora of must dos: Pike’s Peak, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Garden of the Gods, Old Colorado City, Royal George Bridge, and the Air Force Academy.  Not sure we’ll have time to see all the sights, but we’ll give it the ole college try.

First things first though.  Dogs need to run after being cooped up for 11 hours in the Busse Bus.  Found the Bear Creek Dog Park about two miles away, too far to ride so we had to add to the jeep mileage.  10 acre fenced in park with a creek running through it.  Bear was in heaven.  We could take him off the leash and let him run and meet other dogs.  He found the creek quickly and jumped in.  Yay, wet dog!  Having a puppy is extremely funny at times.  Bear was playing with some other dogs and hurt his hind leg.  Came limping back to Katrina who rubbed it for a few minutes.  He could step on it again and ran off to play just like a little kid.  Both dogs slept well.

Sunday morning, no work and enough daylight to try to get as many sights in as possible.
