It is downright chilly here! We have woken up to 39 degrees a couple of mornings. Brr!

Put the heat on in the coach to try to feel our toes. Since it was a crappy day we got a lot of tasks completed in the coach, like: laundry, fixing some cabinet hinges, replacing faucet washers, and blog work. Also got to use the beautiful fitness center. Therefore, although the weather didn’t cooperate with us, we needed a down day to get caught up on items.

We are staying at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains (previously called River Run) and have scheduled a month in this beautiful area situated in Granby, CO. Here’s where:

We had stayed here before with a AIM Rally a couple of years ago. Larry and Bouraine Smith from Myakka have a house in nearby Fraser/Winter Park. They are rehabbing it this summer so we will get to see them during our stay. We were able to meet up with them for dinner at the Tabernash Tavern.

What a great restaurant!

We definitely will return. After finishing our meal Larry and Bouraine showed us their house and then we stopped at the Fraser Valley Distilling company for a nightcap.

I tried their bourbon flight

which was actually pretty good.

Since Matt was still in town for a couple of days before he completed his flight training with United we decided to drive to Denver to see him. On the drive down we espied a moose – they really do exist!

We picked Matt up at his hotel and then headed to Stranahan’s Whiskey Distillery & Cocktail Bar where Matt had made a tour reservation for all of us. We got there early so decided to catch a bite to eat nearby at Punch Bowl Social.

Very unique place offering bowling, darts, and other games. We found a table and had a delicious lunch where I ordered a huge bowl of French fries smothered in sriracha, garlic sauce, peppers, onions and peanuts. Back at the distillery:

The distillery tour was very good and informative – we also got to taste four different types of their whiskey. Tasty, but we didn’t purchase any bottles. From there we headed to Stoney’s Cantina for some Mexican food. Really good tacos!

The sun came out (at Sun Outdoors, ironic) and allowed me to get some nice pictures of this beautiful campground. Here’s our site and other options for those who don’t own RVs:

You can rent Airstreams or covered wagons! Look at the facilities and note the mountains in the background:

Katrina and I hung at the pool and ordered some lunch before the rain started. We met up with Larry and Bouraine for dinner in Winter Park at Deno’s Mountain Bistro.

We had a nice meal and since it was still early we checked out the Noble Buck Brewing Co to taste their beer. We are a bit early in the season so the place was very empty. The beer was pretty good.

Our campground has two pickleball courts where Katrina and Larry get to play almost every day. Bill, the campground’s Pickleball Pro met them there and was able to play with them which made the play pretty competitive.

The days stayed the same as we woke up to high 30’s, Katrina played pickleball, I worked on the blog and we either made dinner in or met up with Larry and Bouraine.

We met up with them again for dinner at Pepe Osaka’s Fishtaco Tequila Bar and Grill in downtown Winter Park. What an interesting concept to fuse Japanese and Mexican cuisines!

The food was outstanding! I mean really, a sushi taco? A Thai chicken taco! Yummy!

After dinner we headed over to a local distillery called Idlewild Spirits Brewpub and Restaurant. The places is kinda hidden in a basement making it feel like a speakeasy. I tried their bourbon….not too good. Didn’t stay for another round as Bouraine got a call that some of their friends were at the Secret Saloon. On the way over there was a band playing in the bandshell:

We will need to check that out over the next few weeks. The Secret Saloon is a members only establishment where locals hang out and since Larry has been around this area since the 70’s he is considered a local. The saloon is located on the second story in a small strip mall. Check it out:

Not too busy but fun meeting the locals. On the way back to their house we stopped at their local brewery:

A funky kind of a place called Fraser River Beer Co.

The night after Katrina made dinner we went up to the clubhouse with Bear to listen to the music. The band sounded really good,

but it wasn’t our type of music. We headed back to the Busse Bus and had a campfire complete with s’mores:

Yummy!

Well this wraps up the first third of our time in Granby, CO. Although the weather hasn’t been great it has allowed us time to catch up on our blog as Hurricane Ian thwarted progress last fall.
